
On November 30, while repairing a pipeline near a house on Dzerzhinsky Street, the soil of a pit fell on two workers in Krasnouralsk (Sverdlovsk Region), and the men died on the spot. The Investigative Committee of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region opened a criminal case on violation of safety rules during construction work, said senior assistant to the head of the regional investigative committee Alexander Shulga.
“The investigation of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case on violation of safety rules during construction or other work, which resulted through negligence in the death of two workers in the city of Krasnouralsk <...> while carrying out repair work on a pipeline near a house on Dzerzhinsky Street in the city of Krasnouralsk, a pit collapse occurred. As a result of the incident, two workers were buried under the rubble and died,” says the telegram channel of the Russian Investigative Committee for the Sverdlovsk region. Those found guilty may face imprisonment for up to seven years, the department said.
The head of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Sverdlovsk Region, Valery Gorelykh, noted that the incident could have happened due to a violation of safety rules when working with land. “According to preliminary data, the men were repairing a broken pipe, and at that moment the emergency occurred. According to one of the versions being worked out by police officers and investigators, the disaster could have happened due to a violation of safety regulations during excavation work. It is now being clarified whether instructions were given before people took over their shifts,” said Valery Gorelykh.
