Vladimir Sharpatov, hero of the Russian Federation, civil aviation pilot, about whom the film “Kandahar” was filmed, visited the Shatrovsky district of the Kurgan region. This was reported by the Selskaya Nov newspaper.
“Young Army members from the schools of the Shatrovsky district and young border guards from the Tersyuk school, veteran organizations, the head of the district, and media representatives met at the Children’s Children’s Palace with the Hero of Russia, retired lieutenant colonel Vladimir Ilyich Sharpatov,” the publication says in its public social network. Those present were impressed by the meeting with the man who served as the prototype for the hero of the film “Kandahar”.
Vladimir Ilyich Sharpatov was brought up in a large family. After school, he graduated from flight school and the Kazan Aviation Institute, made domestic and international flights, and visited 65 countries. His life changed in August 1995, when during a flight his IL-76 transport plane was forced to land at an Afghan airfield near the city of Kandahar. The crew was captured and held by the Taliban for more than a year. In August 1996, Russian pilots managed to escape from prison.
