Head of EU diplomacy Borrell announced the continuation of the dialogue between the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo

The first round of talks in Brussels between Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kuti ended unsuccessfully. The parties could not reach a consensus on a settlement, but agreed to continue the dialogue. How RIA Novosti reportedwith such a statement was made by the head of the diplomatic corps of the European Union, Josep Borrell.

He stressed that, despite the differences, both politicians understand the importance of negotiations for the speedy normalization of relations.

“Both leaders agreed on the need to continue the dialogue, negotiations will resume in the coming days. As long as there is time until September 1, I do not give up, ”said Borrell.

The diplomat explained that the main topic on the agenda was the tension over license plates and entry documents for drivers traveling between Kosovo and Serbia.

“The international community does not want a resumption of tension, the parties will bear full responsibility for any escalation on the ground,” Borrell stressed.

Aggravation between Serbia and Kosovo occurred at the end of July. The authorities of the partially recognized region announced a ban on the entry of cars with Serbian numbers. This statement caused mass protests in areas densely populated by the Serbian population. The participants blocked the transit bridge and built barricades.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said he would ask the Kosovo authorities for a truce. At the same time, he noted that Belgrade would not stand aside in the event of continued abuse of the Serbs. Against the background of the escalation of the conflict, the authorities of Kosovo postponed the imposition of restrictions on drivers until September 1.
