“We welcome the easing of sanctions by the United States of America”Ghebreyesus said.

He also praised Damascus’ decision not to impede UN cross-border transportation to rebel-controlled regions of Syria. The WHO Director General expressed hope that the assistance would continue.

Recall, the US Treasury on February 9 announced that it was suspending sanctions on the supply of humanitarian aid to Syria for 180 days. To this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic replied that Washington in this way “confuse” the world community. Damascus noted that US sanctions are limiting the supply of medical equipment to hospitals, and have also blocked Syrians’ access to natural resources.
