The head of the European Commission revealed the contents of the ninth package of sanctions against Russia

The President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, has revealed what the ninth package of sanctions against Russia will look like. It will include almost 200 individuals and legal entities. New restrictive measures will affect three more Russian banks, new export control measures will be taken.

The new sanctions will limit Russia’s access to all kinds of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles. Also, as part of the new sanctions package, four additional TV channels will be taken off the air.

Mrs. von der Leyen does not indicate the names of individuals, the names of banks and TV channels, except for the All-Russian Regional Development Bank.

Sanctions list individuals and legal entities include “the Russian armed forces, as well as individual officers and defense industrial companies, members of the State Duma and the Federation Council, ministers, governors and political parties, among others.”

Sanctions against three Russian banks implies a complete ban on transactions with the Russian Regional Development Bank.

It is also expected to introduce new export controls and restrictions, especially on dual-use items, which include basic chemicals, nerve agents, electronics, and IT components.

Will be limited access to all types of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles. “We propose to ban the direct export of drone engines to Russia and export to any third countries, such as Iran, that could supply drones to Russia,” the EC website quoted its chairman as saying.

As part of the new sanctions package, four additional channelsas well as other distribution platforms for state propaganda.

Further economic measures are also proposed against the Russian energy and mining sector, including ban on new investment in the mining industry in Russia.
