A 19-year-old Austrian with North Macedonian roots was planning a terrorist attack during one of Taylor Swift’s concerts in Vienna.
The suspect intended to drive a car at high speed into a crowd of up to 20,000 fans outside the Ernst Happel Stadium. The car was reportedly equipped with blue lights.
The suspect also planned to use knives, machetes, and explosives in the attack. The explosives were constructed with chemicals stolen from the suspect’s workplace.
Taylor Swift’s concerts as part of her Eras tour were scheduled for August 8, 9, and 10 at the Ernst Happel Stadium. The concerts were expected to draw up to 65,000 spectators each, with an additional 15-20,000 fans gathering outside the stadium.
Following the security threat, the event organizer, Barracuda Music, announced the cancellation of the three concerts in Vienna. Austrian authorities made multiple arrests in connection with the plot, including the suspect, who was detained in the city of Ternitz.
