The Federation Council will discuss the ratification of agreements on the entry of new regions into the Russian Federation

At a meeting on Tuesday, the Federation Council will consider the issue of ratifying treaties on the accession of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions to Russia, and constitutional laws on the admission of regions to the Russian Federation and the formation of new subjects will also be considered.

Consideration of documents may take place in the presence of the heads of new entities, said the chairman of the constitutional committee of the Federation Council Andrey Klishas.

Referendums on the entry of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into the Russian Federation were held on September 23-27. According to the results of processing 100% of ballots in the DPR, 99.23% of those who voted for joining the Russian Federation, in the LPR – 98.42%, in the Kherson region – 87.05%, in the Zaporozhye region – 93.11%.

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin On September 30, he spoke in the Kremlin following the results of referendums in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, after which he signed agreements with their heads on the admission of regions into Russia. Later, the Constitutional Court of Russia recognized these treaties as corresponding to the Constitution of the Russian Federation.

The senators will discuss the ratification of international treaties on the accession to Russia of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. The specialized international committee of the chamber has already recommended to senators to approve the documents.

Former speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko declared support for the position of the citizens of Donbass, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. According to her, in Russia they respect the will of the inhabitants of these regions, and “if such is the will on their part to become part of Russia,” they will be supported.
