The Federation Council approved the law on elections in territories under martial law

Senators at a meeting of the Federation Council approved a law on lifting the ban on holding elections in martial law regions. The broadcast was conducted in the social network “Vkontakte”.

According to the document being prepared, the decision to call elections where martial law has been introduced is taken by the Central Election Commission in conjunction with consultation with the Russian Ministry of Defense, follows from broadcasts meetings of the Federation Council. The bill implies that elections can be held both in the entire territory under martial law, and in part of such territory. The Federation Council concluded that such a decision would allow the September 2023 elections to be held in new regions of the Russian Federation: in the LPR, DPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.

URA.RU told how the elections will be held under martial law. One of the criteria for this possibility is the obligatory consultation with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation no later than five days from the date of receipt of the proposal.
