The draft of the new Constitution of Uzbekistan provides for an increase in the term of office of the president of the country from five to seven years. This is stated in the draft constitutional law “On the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, which is published by the newspaper “Narodnoye Slovo”.
“The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan is elected by the citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret ballot for a period of seven years,” indicated in the document.
It should be noted that under the current legislation, the head of state is elected for five years. In addition, the basic law of Uzbekistan is planned to be updated by 65%, adding 27 articles to it, increasing their total number to 155.
