The doctor dispelled the myth about the benefits of 8 glasses of clean water a day

It turns out that it is not necessary for everyone to drink several liters of pure water, even soup, tea and other drinks help to quench their thirst. About this in conversation with “Gazeta.ru” Olga Frolova, an expert in general practice, told.

“There are many myths around water and drinking regimen. For example, it is believed that each person needs to drink 6-8 glasses of pure water a day. In fact, this is a common myth that has not been confirmed after a series of studies,” the doctor explained.

It is better to know the measure in everything, in no case is it necessary to force yourself to drink water, because in this way you can even harm the body and lead to a lack of electrolytes in the cells. On average, a person needs about 30 milliliters of fluid per kilogram of body weight, but this amount should be increased in case of fever, illness, training, as well as diarrhea, constipation or heat stroke. There are cases when fluid intake should be reduced, especially in a number of kidney diseases or heart failure.

“If you don’t like to drink pure water, but prefer tea, then this is also a great option for replenishing fluids. We can also get a lot of fluid from eating soups or stews. About 20% of the fluid comes from foods with a high water content,” — added the doctor.
