Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the delegation at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit will be headed by Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk. The summit will take place in San Francisco from November 11 to 17.
“Yesterday I received a lot of questions regarding who will represent Russia at the APEC summit in San Francisco. On behalf of the president, the Russian delegation will be headed by Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk,” Mr. Peskov said during a press call.
On November 7, the US authorities sent an invitation to the summit to all APEC participants, including Russia. US State Department APEC spokesman Matt Murray said the event will be held “in accordance with the spirit and principles of APEC, and in accordance with US laws and regulations,” including sanctions restrictions. Ambassador at Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Marat Berdyev said in September that the United States decided not to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the summit in San Francisco.
The United States introduced sanctions against Vladimir Putin, as well as Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, on February 25, 2022, after the start of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.
