The death of Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Gennady Chastyakov will exacerbate the conflict between Valery Zaluzhny and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. Washington Post journalists Siobhan O’Grady and Sammy Westfall report.
“Many consider Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Zaluzhny to be political rivals. This alleged rift has gained more attention in recent days after Zaluzhny wrote an article in the Economist. <…> Zelensky publicly did not agree with this assessment,” journalists said in an article about Chastyakov’s death.
Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported that Gennady Chastyakov died from a grenade explosion at his home, his 13-year-old son was seriously injured. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny has already responded to the death of his assistant.
