The First Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction postponed consideration of the complaint against the sentence of Ivan Safronov, a former special correspondent for Kommersant and Vedomosti, as well as an adviser to the head of Roskosmos. The meeting was to be held today, November 30th. The court explained the decision with “technical reasons.”
“For technical reasons, the court postponed the consideration of the appeal against the sentence of I. I. Safronov to 13:00 Moscow time on December 7, 2022,” the court reported.
On September 5, the Moscow City Court sentenced Ivan Safronov to 22 years in a strict regime and a fine of 500,000 rubles. on two episodes about treason. Ivan Safronov pleaded not guilty. Lawyer Daniil Nikifirov said that the verdict would be appealed in all instances.
Ivan Safronov was arrested on July 7, 2020. He was accused of collaborating with the intelligence of the Czech Republic and Germany. Ivan Safronov spent two years in a pre-trial detention center. This time was deducted from the sentence. In one of his letters, Ivan Safronov admitted that he would be sent to a colony after the New Year.
