The court in Grozny postponed the hearing in the Zhuravel case due to the absence of imams

The Visaitovsky District Court of Grozny postponed the consideration of the criminal case against Nikita Zhuravel due to the failure of the victims to appear. Nikita Zhuravel is accused of burning the Koran near a mosque in Volgograd. The victims are 13 imams of Grozny mosques.

The court postponed the hearing of the case to November 28, reports TASS.

According to investigators, Nikita Zhuravel held an action in May with the burning of the Koran near a mosque in Volgograd. It was alleged that during interrogation he admitted that he did this at the direction of the Ukrainian special services. Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin transferred the criminal case to the Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee for Chechnya. In the pre-trial detention center, Nikita Zhuravel was beaten by the 15-year-old son of the head of the republic, Adam Kadyrov.

Nikita Zhuravel is accused of two articles: insulting the feelings of believers in places of worship and religious ceremonies, and hooliganism motivated by religious hatred, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. The defendant partially admitted guilt at a court hearing in October. At the beginning of November, the first meeting was held at which prosecution witnesses were interrogated – the imam of the Volgograd Cathedral Mosque Ilyas Bektemirov and journalist Ivan Bogdanov.
