The Ukrainian authorities should study the possibility of regulating the work of the Telegram messenger in the country, said the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko. The official expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that at the moment the state cannot control the activities of the messenger in any way.
Mr. Tkachenko, in a conversation with Interfax-Ukraine journalists, said that the big plus of Telegram is the ability to quickly deliver news and any other content to citizens, but there is “a lot of Russian activity” in the messenger. At the same time, representatives of Telegram do not come into contact with the Ukrainian authorities.
“It is quite difficult to make sure that there are traces of the FSB or someone else there. But the fact that there is no communication with Telegram raises many questions and doubts,” said the Ukrainian Minister of Culture.
In this regard, Oleksandr Tkachenko proposed to study what legislative possibilities the Ukrainian authorities have to regulate the activities of the messenger in the country. At the same time, he emphasized that in this case there is no question of blocking the messenger, the authorities need to establish communication with Telegram and, if possible, get the company’s management to transfer or delete this or that “sensitive information”.
