The Bank of Russia has started to introduce payments in the Faster Payments System (FPS) using NFC technology, which allows you to pay for goods by touching your mobile phone to a payment terminal. This was announced by Olga Skorobogatova, First Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia, during the New Horizons educational marathon. The first deputy chairman of the Central Bank also noted that in almost five years the share of non-cash payments in Russia reached 75%.
“Just the other day, we launched the NFC option, when you can use your mobile phone, applying, also pay with the help of the SBP for the purchase that you make, for example, in a cafe or in some kind of retail chain,” said Ms. Skorobogatova (quote on TASS).
SBP is a system of the Bank of Russia that allows funds to be transferred by the identifier (currently by phone number) of the recipient, even if the parties to the transfer have accounts in different credit institutions. SBP also allows you to make instant payments, including using a QR code.
“A few years ago, only 30% of payments in our country were non-cash, 70% were cash,” reminded Olga Skorobogatova. “In a very short period of time – it is, in fact, only about five years – we have reached 75% of non-cash payments,” the first deputy chairman of the Central Bank said.
NFC (near field communication) is a short-range wireless data transmission technology that allows the exchange of data between devices located at a distance of about 10 cm.
