The Bank of Russia reacted to the introduction by some credit institutions of commissions for servicing foreign currency accounts of citizens without obtaining their consent. The Central Bank declared the inadmissibility of such actions. The regulator has issued an information letter, which is designed to prevent such actions.
The inclusion in the current agreements of bank accounts and deposits of provisions providing for a unilateral increase or establishment of remuneration for transactions, violates the rights of consumers, declared Central Bank. It is also unacceptable to introduce provisions into contracts concluded with consumers that provide for the right of the bank to unilaterally increase or establish commission fees for transactions.
On June 9, Tinkoff Bank announced that from June 23 it will introduce a commission of 1% per month with a balance of more than 1 thousand conventional units on accounts in US dollars, euros, pounds sterling and Swiss francs. From June 30, a commission of 0.2% was introduced by Raiffeisenbank.
