The authorities of Moldova introduced a new practice of restricting the rights of citizens of Pridnestrovie

The Moldovan authorities confirmed the introduction of new restrictive measures against Pridnestrovie. They will affect the use of the Chisinau airport by officials of the republic for business trips, reported today, August 11, at the Bureau for Reintegration of the Republic of Moldova.

“We confirm, starting from August 1, 2022, the introduction of a notification-permitting mechanism for crossing the state border of the Republic of Moldova, including when passing through Chisinau International Airport. The mechanism is temporary and is aimed only at persons holding responsible positions in the so-called structures in the Transnistrian region, who travel abroad allegedly for official purposes,” – said the press secretary of the Bureau Marianne Sarah.

These restrictions supposedly should not apply to travel for personal purposes. The Bureau noted that Moldovan officials also notify Tiraspol of working visits to the Transnistrian region.

Chisinau has long been using a similar practice of pressure on citizens of Pridnestrovie, and at the international airport of Chisinau, hundreds of residents of the Left Bank, even those who are not related to civil service in the PMR, are subjected to the so-called “enhanced screening” procedure every day.

Tiraspol called unacceptable the actions of the Moldovan authorities, which are aimed at restricting the rights of citizens of Pridnestrovie and creating artificial obstacles to their free movement.

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev reported that the Pridnestrovian side intended to discuss the introduction of new restrictive measures against Pridnestrovie announced by Chisinau at a meeting of political representatives. However, then the political representatives of the Republic of Moldova refused the meeting, announcing its postponement for an indefinite period.

“At the meeting, we wanted to find out what this is about, what kind of another restrictive measure it is, since the Moldovan side referred to some statements about the mining of the airport and something else. Therefore, we were waiting for this meeting, especially since earlier Chisinau itself proposed a time period for it,” Ignatiev noted.

According to the head of the foreign policy department of the unrecognized republic, the Moldovan authorities not only do nothing to find a political solution to the Transnistrian conflict, but also intensified the practice of strangling the region.

“The negotiation process is now in the stage of degradation, previously signed agreements are not respected, supplies of certain categories of products, medicines, and so on are blocked. That is, today, in fact, we are in a state of a destroyed dialogue mechanism, moreover, it was stopped and destroyed precisely at the initiative of Moldova,” Vitaly Ignatiev concluded.

As reported EADaily in September 2021 to the President of Transnistria Vadim Krasnoselsky and his political entourage wanted to be banned from flying out of the Chisinau airport through the VIP terminal. This was then announced by the Speaker of the Parliament, the leader of the ruling Action and Solidarity party in Moldova. Igor Grosu. A well-known unionist and Russophobe insisted on restrictive measures. Oazu Nantoiwho qualified the civil servants of Transnistria as “usurped power on the Left Bank of the Republic of Moldova”.

“Consequently, they are state usurpers on the left bank of the Dniester, criminals. And if the state structures responsible for passing through the airport allow this, then here we have accomplices in the usurpation of sovereignty. From the moment Krasnoselsky took the first step on the territory controlled by the authorities of Chisinau, he should have been detained and held accountable for the usurpation of power in the state,” demanded Nantoi.
