Tajikistan urges Russia to check data on beatings of migrants

Prosecutor General of Tajikistan Rahmon Yusuf Ahmadzod sent an urgent telegram to the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office in connection with the mass detentions of labor migrants, said on the website of the department.

“In connection with the mass detentions of working citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan, beatings and ill-treatment against them, as well as the detention by law enforcement officers of a large number of Tajik students”, – reported in the Tajik prosecutor’s office.

The prosecutor asked to check the “actions of individual employees” of Russian law enforcement agencies and give them a legal assessment.

The Tajik Foreign Ministry indicated that in mid-May, more than a hundred Tajik students were subjected to “interrogation and ill-treatment by Russian law enforcement agencies” in Komsomolsk-on-Amur.

“From the information we received from the media and social networks, it became known that OMON officers, together with the FSB, came to the hostel where the students lived, turned off the surveillance cameras and severely beat the students who did not commit any illegal actions,” – said the commissioner for human rights in Tajikistan Umed Bobozoda.

Head of the Tajik Ministry of Internal Affairs Ramazon Rahimzoda asked a Russian colleague Vladimir Kolokoltsev take control of such incidents. Russian Ambassador Semyon Grigoriev was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan. At the same time, Komsomolsk-on-Amur State University denied the data on the beating of Tajik students.
