Taiwan completes military exercise in response to Chinese military maneuvers


Taiwan’s armed forces have completed a two-day live-fire exercise in Pingtung County in the south of the island. This was announced today, August 11, TASS reports with reference to a representative of the Eighth Army Corps of the island.

According to the agency, the first stage of military training took place on Tuesday, the second – on Thursday. The Taiwanese military carried out firing from 155-mm self-propelled howitzers and 120-mm mortars in order to test the combat effectiveness of artillery, practicing defensive actions against the invasion of a mock enemy.

At the same time, it is reported that the current artillery exercises were routine and were planned long before the large-scale maneuvers that the People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA) conducted in recent days around Taiwan.

At the same time, on September 5, the Taiwanese army intends to hold another planned annual exercise in Pingtung with the participation of snipers, special forces, combined arms battalions, Clouded Leopard armored vehicles and mortars. The exercise will also involve AH-1W Super Cobra and AH-64A attack helicopters, according to Taiwan’s central news agency.
