After the thrill of IPL 2021 is over, ICC has now got a unique gift for cricket fans in the form of T20 World Cup. It is going to start from today, where the first qualifier match of the tournament is to be played at the Al Emirates Cricket Ground. Oman and Papua New Guinea face each other here. The winner of this tournament will be decided by the final match to be played in Dubai on 14 November. This time the tournament will be played in the Super 12 format, for which eight teams have qualified directly, while the other four teams will be decided by the qualifying rounds. Let’s take a look at the highlights of this time’s T20 World Cup-
Good news for MS Dhoni fans, Chennai Super Kings will retain Thala in the mega auction of IPL 2022
The first round of the T20 World Cup will be the qualifying round, in which there are two groups of four teams each. Here the top two teams from each group will directly enter the Super 12. Here Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands and Namibia are in Group A, while Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea and hosts Oman are in Group B. The Super 12 will have two groups of six teams, where matches will be played on a round robin basis. Here the top two teams from both the groups will directly qualify for the semi-finals.
Tournament Point System
In the T20 World Cup, the winning team will get two points. Apart from this, there is a provision of one point in case of tie, result and cancellation and zero point in case of loss or withdrawal.
Whether there is a reserve day for big matches in the tournament
There is a provision of reserve day for both the semi-final and final matches of this tournament. There is no reserve day for any other match except for these matches. Here the match will be played on the day of reserve day only if the match of minimum 5 overs is not possible on the scheduled date. If the match starts on the scheduled date and for some reason the number of overs is reduced and the situation becomes such that it is not possible to complete the match on that day, then on the day of reserve day the match will start from where it was stopped.
