Swedish environmental activist Thunberg receives an honorary doctorate from the University of Helsinki

Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg received an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Theology at the University of Helsinki. This is stated in statement on the website of the educational institution. Professor Martti Nissinen noted that the faculty thus sought to broaden its view of human rights and the state of the Earth.

“By choosing Greta as an honorary doctor, we declare that we want to be as bold and influential as she is.” he noted in an interview with Helsingin Sanomat.

A total of 30 individuals from all over the world have been awarded this degree. So, the Finnish leader Sauli Niinistö became an honorary doctor of the Faculty of Philosophy.
