Su-27 sent “German” over the Baltic home – EADaily, April 12, 2023 – Incidents, Russian News

A Russian Su-27 fighter escorted a German patrol aircraft in the sky over the Baltic Sea, no violation of the state border of the Russian Federation was allowed, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

“On April 12, 2023, Russian airspace control over the Baltic Sea detected an air target approaching the State Border of the Russian Federation. To identify an air target and prevent the violation of the state border of the Russian Federation, a Su-27 fighter from the air defense forces of the Western Military District was raised into the air. – says the defense department.

It is noted that the crew of the Russian fighter was able to identify the flying object as the R-3C Orion base patrol aircraft of the German Navy. After the German plane turned around from the Russian state border, the fighter returned to the airfield.

“Violation of the State Border of the Russian Federation is not allowed”, – emphasized in the press service of the Ministry of Defense.

Here, the day of September 13, 1987 comes to mind, when the Norwegian patrol aircraft P-3V “Orion” tried to monitor a group of Soviet warships in the neutral waters of the Barents Sea. The Su-27 pilot received an order to carry out a training interception of the Orion.

The reconnaissance crew tried to get rid of the enemy and sharply reduced speed, believing that the fighter would not be able to stay close to him at low speed. However, the Su-27 continued to fly exactly under the Orion.

The Norwegian pilot lost sight of the fighter and began to maneuver. As a result, the Orion screw hit the keel of the Su-27. The propeller collapsed, its fragments pierced the R-3V fuselage, depressurization occurred, and the Orion was forced to leave the patrol zone, and the Su-27 returned safely to base.

But this time everything ended peacefully. Lucky for the German.
