State Department approves $380 million sale of Stinger MANPADS missiles to Finland

The US State Department has approved the sale of Stinger man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) missiles to Finland for $380 million. This was reported by the Agency for Defense Cooperation.

“The State Department has agreed to a possible $380 million sale, testing and transfer of FIM-92K Stinger portable missiles to the Government of Finland” the department says on its website.

The main contractors will be Raytheon Missiles and Defense and Lockheed Martin. Helsinki is known to have asked Washington for 350 missiles and five flight tests. FIM-92 Stinger is designed to destroy low-flying air targets (aircraft, helicopters, drones). The maximum range of the missile complex is eight kilometers, the height is about four kilometers.
