Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova, Minister of Regional Development Andrei Spinu will not retain his position in the new government of Dorin Recean. He was appointed General Secretary of the President’s Office. The decree on this was signed today, February 13, by the head of state, Maia Sandu.
After the election of Maia Sandu as President of the Republic of Moldova in 2020, Spinu has already held this position. In August 2021, he joined the cabinet in the government of Natalia Gavrilitsa. Former Secretary General of the President’s Office Viacheslav Negrutsa will now take the position of adviser to the president in the field of economics.
As a reminder, in the context of numerous accusations made lately in the public space about decisions in the energy sector, the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrej Spinu did not rule out that the visit of prosecutors might wake up. At the same time, the official believes that he has nothing to fear, since he is confident in the correctness of the decisions made and the policy pursued. According to him, thanks to the prompt actions of the government, the energy crisis was effectively overcome.
He also assured that he had no intention of retiring in the near future.
“I want the government to fulfill its term of office to the end,” Andrey Spinu said back in January of this year.
As reported EADaily on Friday, February 10, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa resigned. Her Cabinet also left automatically. On the same day, President Maia Sandu proposed Security Council Secretary Dorin Recean for the post of new head of government.
According to the deputy of the ruling party in the Republic of Moldova “Action and Solidarity” Radu Mariana, the list of the new government could be made public today or tomorrow. The former ministers should form the basis of the new cabinet, but some restructuring is also possible.
