South Korea’s political landscape remains volatile following the controversy surrounding President Yoon Suk Yeol’s martial law declaration.
People Power Party (PPP) leader Han Dong-hoon has called for Yoon’s resignation, citing concerns for the safety of citizens if he continues in office.

On Friday, President Yoon canceled a planned national apology amid growing criticism from opposition parties. Meanwhile, Defense Ministry dismissed three military commanders linked to the martial law announcement.
The issue has sparked debates about Yoon’s impeachment, adding further tension to the country’s political arena.
During an emergency meeting of the ruling PPP, Han Dong-hoon stated that allowing Yoon to remain in office could jeopardize public safety, accusing the president of refusing to admit his mistake in declaring martial law.

Han warned that Yoon might attempt another martial law declaration, which could endanger South Korea and its citizens.
The opposition leader, Lee Jae-myung, also demanded Yoon’s immediate resignation, accusing him of unconstitutional actions and jeopardizing lives. “We cannot allow him to hold public office for even a second longer,” said Lee, emphasizing the urgency of removing Yoon from power.

On same day, Defense Ministry confirmed the dismissal of three senior military officials tied to the martial law incident. According to BBC, if President Yoon is impeached or resigns, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo will assume the role of acting president.
