The Joint Chiefs of Staff of the South Korean army reported that at 06:29 (00:29 Moscow time) a “space launch vehicle” was launched from the territory of the DPRK. Statement leads the agency yonhap.
The launch was made from the Dongchangni region of the Pyongan-Pukto province of the DPRK. The missile flew over the Yellow Sea “far to the west” of the South Korean island of Baengnyeongdo. During the flight, the rocket disappeared from radar. The South Korean military is investigating whether it exploded in the air or fell before reaching the declared place of impact.
Earlier, the North Korean authorities announced their intention to launch a satellite using a “space launch vehicle” between May 31 and June 11. The UN Security Council resolution, according to Yonhap news agency, bans space launches using ballistic missiles.
