The DPRK has launched two ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan, the Yenhap news agency reports a statement from the Joint Command of the South Korean Armed Forces. One of them fell outside the exclusive economic zone of Japan, according to the Kyodo agency, citing a statement from the Japanese Coast Guard.
The North Korean Central Telegraph Agency of Korea (CTAC) did not report any launches or tests at the time of publication. Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga will speak at a press conference on the occasion of the DPRK’s missile launch, Kyodo notes.
Reports of the launch of the projectile came a few days after the DPRK tested a new long-range cruise missile. According to the TsTAK, on September 11 and 12, a new type of missile was tested. The US Department of Defense confirmed the DPRK cruise missile launches and said the launches indicated a threat to neighboring countries.
