Since the beginning of 2022, at least 40 databases of Russians have been made public

Since the beginning of 2022, more than 40 major leaks of personal data bases have occurred in Russia, Roskomnadzor reported. The deputy head of the department, Milos Wagner, noted that the adopted worlds to solve this problem will ensure the safety of the personal data of Russians.

“Since the beginning of the year, there have already been more than 40 major leaks, as a result of which more than 300 million records have been compromised,” Milos Wagner said at a meeting of the Public Council of Roskomnadzor (quoted from TASS).

Mr. Wagner noted that the recent amendments to the law on personal data give Russians the opportunity to protect personal information. “Personal operators also have new responsibilities aimed primarily at increasing the transparency of their activities,” said the deputy head of Roskomnadzor.

On July 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin adopted amendments to the law “On Personal Data”. As follows from the document, operators must immediately inform authorized authorities about personal data leaks, as well as ensure interaction with the state system for detecting and preventing computer attacks and eliminating their consequences.

In July, the Ministry of Digital Development discussed the size and procedure for fines for companies for leaking personal data. According to the ministry, in the new version of the bill for the first leak, the fine will be fixed, the amount will depend on the amount of data that got into the network. In the second case, a turnover penalty will be applied – a percentage of the company’s profits.

Earlier, Yandex.Food was fined twice for leaking personal data. A similar fine was imposed on the federal network of laboratories “Gemotest”. The data of users of Rostelecom, Ozon, CDEK and Russian Post also leaked to the network.
