The Serbian government has decided to limit the price of bread in the country. This measure will take effect from Tuesday, August 9, it was introduced for a period of 30 days, reported press office of the Cabinet of Ministers.
In retail, bread will have to cost no more than 53.5 Serbian dinars (almost 29 rubles). The maximum margin for all types of bread was limited to 40%. In addition, at a government meeting agreed a decree on the mandatory production and sale of bread from flour of the first grade. This decision was made “in order to protect the market and prevent distortions in the formation of prices for this product,” the authorities explained.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said that a state of emergency has been in effect in the country since August 1, although they did not officially declare it. It will last until March 31, 2023. Mr. Vučić cited the worldwide crisis as the cause, which affected energy supply and food supplies.
