The incident occurred in the same state where an assassination attempt was made on Trump during a campaign speech on July 13. At the time, the politician was injured in the ear, one spectator was killed, and two others were injured. The suspect managed to fire several shots towards the stage before being neutralized by security services.
The US Department of Homeland Security announced on July 17 that it would investigate the Secret Service’s security measures during Trump’s campaign rally.
The FBI is investigating the incident as an attempted assassination and possible domestic terrorism. According to the bureau, the suspect is 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. Against the backdrop of these events, the head of the US Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, resigned on July 23.
