Seaside coffee shops may abandon paper cups

Letters with a new set of requirements have already been sent to the Russian Barista Association and the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers of Russia.

“And we calculated that if all coffee lovers in Russia switch to thermo mugs, then more than 41 billion paper cups will not be used in a year,” said Denis Butsaev, CEO of REO.

He explained that paper tableware is not recyclable because it is covered with a layer of polypropylene film. This plastic will lie in landfills for a thousand years.
