The conciliatory policy of former German Chancellor Angela Merkel towards Russia was not a mistake. This statement was made by the successor to Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

“An attempt at reconciliation can never be wrong, just like an attempt to get along peacefully,” Scholz said in an interview with the German newspaper Welt. “I am on the side of my predecessor and see no reason to doubt her decisions,” the politician added.

Angela Merkel stepped down as German Chancellor in December 2021 after the German Parliament voted on former Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Olaf Scholz for the position. Being the leader of the country, the politician personally did not miss the supply of NATO weapons to Ukraine and forced the Netherlands to support this decision.

After her departure from office, Merkel opposed the accelerated entry of Ukraine into the North Atlantic alliance. Later, the politician suggested that her resignation could provoke an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, reports RT.
