German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the likely visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Germany is not on the agenda. However, a necessary condition for organizing such an event, according to Mr. Scholz, is the complete cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, the completion of the Russian military operation and the conclusion of a Russian-Ukrainian peace treaty.
“About this (Putin’s visit.— “b”) I haven’t thought about it yet… I think that one thing is absolutely clear that the war must be ended,” the chancellor said during today’s press conference, the recording of which is available on YouTube channel Deutsche Welle (recognized as a foreign media agent).
Mr. Scholz specified that Russia must recognize the need for negotiations with Ukraine and the conclusion of a non-coercive peace treaty with it.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has not paid working visits to Western countries since the start of the military operation. Due to sanctions against Russian politicians, even Russian diplomats cannot enter European countries. On June 5, the countries surrounding Serbia closed the airspace for the flight of the aircraft of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. In February, his visit to Switzerland was canceled due to the ban on the flight of the diplomat’s plane in the airspace of European countries.
