Scholz called on Russia to take the turbine for Nord Stream

Russia can take back the Siemens turbine repaired in Canada and continue gas supplies via Nord Stream. This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at press conferences in Berlin.

“Everyone can see that it is ready and can be imported,” Mr. Scholz told reporters. “Take her away. She is here,” he said (TASS quote).

At the same time as the press conference of Olaf Scholz, the Russian Embassy in Berlin published comment “on the issue of gas supplies.” The document says that the Russian Federation cannot take the turbine from Germany, since this would not comply with the terms of the contract.

“Russia needs official confirmation that this and other turbines that require routine maintenance and repair will not fall under the sanctions of the European Union, Canada and the UK (the supplier of the turbine),” the embassy said in a comment.

Now the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline is operating at 20% of its design capacity, since only one of the six Siemens turbines at the Portovaya gas pumping station is operating. The rest of the turbines are stopped. According to the embassy, some of them have malfunctions, others need scheduled maintenance.
