Russians and Belarusians suspended from participation in European Championships in weightlifting in Yerevan

Russian and Belarusian weightlifters are not included in the final list of participants in the European Championship, which will be held from April 15 to 23 in Yerevan. This was stated in the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF), reports today, March 23, “Sport-Express”.

The preliminary list of participants in the European Championship 2023 included 38 Russian and 27 Belarusian weightlifters (men and women), including substitutes.

The European Championship in Yerevan is one of the qualifying tournaments for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

In 2022, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) decided to deprive Russian and Belarusian athletes of the opportunity to compete in tournaments under its auspices for an indefinite period.

Earlier this week, it became known that the Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation (FTAA) applied for the participation of five of its athletes in the European Championship, which will be held next month in the capital of Armenia.
