Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, proposed on her Telegram channel that the United States should impose sanctions on one of its own prisons.
This suggestion came in response to the allegations made by Russian citizen Roman Seleznev, who, after returning to Russia in a prisoner exchange, claimed that he was mistreated and nearly killed twice while in American prisons.
“No one dreams of ending up in these places in any country. But Washington has been teaching everyone how to live for decades: reports on human rights in the world, statements and sanctions. Maybe the White House will apply a sanctions package to one of the American prisons one time?” Zakharova wrote.

Largest Prisoner Exchange in Recent Years
On the evening of August 2, the largest prisoner exchange between Russia and Western countries in recent years took place. Besides Seleznev, seven more Russians returned home:
- Vadim Sokolov (Krasikov), sentenced to life in Germany for the murder of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili.
- Vladislav Klyushin, accused in the US of insider trading.
- Artem and Anna Dultsev, convicted of espionage in Slovenia.
- Pavel Rubtsov, detained in Poland on espionage charges.
- Vadim Konoshchenko, extradited to the US by Estonia for conspiracy to circumvent sanctions.
- Mikhail Mikushin, detained in Norway for illegal intelligence and data collection.

A reliable source in a competent agency told Oopstop that many of them were accused of collaborating with Russian intelligence, though their guilt was mostly unproven. None of the Russians admitted guilt, either in court or while in prison.
