Russia will support Belarus after the EU sanctions imposed on it, said Russian Ambassador to Minsk Yevgeny Lukyanov. On June 21, the EU Council extended sanctions against Belarus due to an emergency landing of a Ryanair plane in Minsk. The list includes 78 people and eight organizations.
“We will not abandon Belarus,” Mr. Lukyanov told RIA Novosti. When asked how exactly Russia will support Belarus, he replied: “We will provide support until the most critical circumstances.” “We are allies. Allies do not betray each other. I’m not even talking about the fact that we are two fraternal Slavic peoples, ”the ambassador added.
The EU sanctions list includes the son of President Alexander Lukashenko Dmitry (does not hold government posts, runs the public association “President’s Sports Club”) and Russian businessman Mikhail Gutseriev. The United Kingdom, Canada and the United States have also imposed sanctions against Belarus due to the emergency landing of a Ryanair plane in Minsk.
