Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Russia’s agreement to a proposed ceasefire in Ukraine but emphasized several conditions must be met.

Speaking at a press conference in Moscow on Thursday, Putin stressed the need for further discussions regarding the ceasefire terms. He stated that achieving lasting peace requires addressing the root causes of the conflict.

Putin hinted at potential talks with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss peace efforts. Ceasefire proposal initiated by United States suggests a 30-day halt to hostilities between Russia and Ukraine.

During a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Thursday, Putin expressed concerns about the ceasefire’s effectiveness. He described the proposal as a positive initiative but questioned whether both sides would withdraw troops as part of the agreement.

Putin warned that a 30-day ceasefire could primarily benefit Ukraine, giving them time to reorganize and rearm, potentially posing strategic risks for Russia. He also questioned how ceasefire violations would be monitored and enforced.
