The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) can announce the Indian team for the T20 and Test series against New Zealand at any time in the next 24 hours. The Indian team has to play a three-match T20 series and a two-match Test series with New Zealand from November 17 at home. White ball vice-captain Rohit Sharma can take charge of the Indian T20 team from the series against New Zealand. Rohit may also get a chance to captain the side in the first match of the Test series against New Zealand as regular skipper Virat Kohli may be rested for the first Test. Virat had already announced that he would step down as the captain of the Indian T20 team after the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup and was last seen on the field as T20 captain on Monday after India’s campaign in the tournament ended.
According to the Times of India report, the current Test captain Virat is taking rest from the first Test and will return for the second Test to be held in Mumbai. Kohli will also be rested from the T20 series against New Zealand as well. Current vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane will continue his role in the Test team while KL Rahul will be the vice-captain of the Indian team for the T20I series. India has to play a three-match T20 series against New Zealand in Jaipur, Ranchi and Kolkata. It will then host two Test matches in Kanpur and Mumbai.

Senior bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami may be rested from the T20 series against New Zealand, while bowlers like Varun Chakraborty and Harshal Patel may be included in the team. Apart from them, Shreyas Iyer and Rahul Chahar and Deepak Chahar can also return to the team. Young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant will be the first choice of the selectors while Wriddhiman Saha can be picked in the team as his reserve. According to the news, BCCI is yet to take any decision regarding the ODI captaincy as the team is yet to play any ODI matches.
