The explosion of trains in the Severomuysky tunnel on the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM), which leads to China, has been classified as a terrorist attack. This was reported by one of the sources familiar with the situation.

“Investigators of the Eastern Interregional Investigation Department for Transport have opened a criminal case under the article “Terrorist Act”. <…> It has been previously established that the fire of the fuel tank was the result of the detonation of an unidentified explosive device allegedly located under the car,” RBC reports, citing its source.

This is not the first fire in this area. Two explosions were initially reported in the tunnel on November 30th. The next day, CNN reported that Ukraine had blown up a train that was traveling along the BAM, reports MK.RU. The Baikal-Amur Mainline connects Russia and China.
