Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a telephone conversation, warned French leader Emmanuel Macron that the systematic shelling of the Ukrainian military at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant creates the danger of a nuclear catastrophe. This was reported by the press service of the Kremlin.

“Various aspects of the situation around Ukraine were discussed. Vladimir Putin, in particular, stressed that the systematic shelling by the Ukrainian military of the territory of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant creates the risk of a large-scale catastrophe that could lead to radiation contamination of vast territories.

The leaders noted the need to send the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to the Zaporozhye NPP as soon as possible to provide a real assessment of the situation. “The Russian side confirmed its readiness to provide the Agency inspectors with the necessary assistance,” the press service said.

Macron called Putin on August 19. The Kremlin press service noted that the leaders agreed to continue contacts. RT.
