Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting on the implementation of programs for the development of Far Eastern cities, proposed discussing their “specific feature” – a large number of objects of the Ministry of Defense, the Federal Penitentiary Service and other federal departments in the central regions. The head of state noted that the option of building these social infrastructure facilities on the site is being considered.
“There is a proposal to move such objects to other places in order to use the vacated space for the construction of housing, social facilities, parks, and so on,”— said Vladimir Putin.
The Russian president believes that the Far East should be made “attractive for studying, working and doing business.” He noted the “noticeable results” that have been achieved in this direction over the past ten years.
“We have to make serious efforts to radically improve the quality of life of people in the Far Eastern regions, create a comfortable and safe urban environment, and solve infrastructural and environmental problems,” Putin added.
To implement plans for the development of the Far East, there are several state programs. One of them is the Far Eastern Quarter, launched in 2021. It aims to stimulate the integrated development of residential areas in the region. During the Eastern Economic Forum in the fall of 2022, Vladimir Putin announced the extension of the Far Eastern mortgage at a rate of 2% until 2030.
