Russian President Vladimir Putin, answering questions at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), said that it is beneficial and interesting for Russia to cooperate with China. He said that the trade turnover between the two sides is $140 billion, and in 2022 it will be a record. Mr. Putin added that Russia began to build relations with China not because of Western sanctions imposed on it.
“We have a trade turnover of $140 billion and will grow, this year it will probably be more, it will be a record. Not because the current political situation forces us to do this, no, because this is how the objective picture of the world develops. It is interesting and beneficial for us to cooperate with China, especially since politically we have very stable trusting relations,” Putin said at SPIEF (quoted by RIA Novosti).
He added that in China, the creation of new world development centers was indicated. “Everyone understands this, everyone sees and knows this,” the head of state added.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, in his video message at the SPIEF, spoke of “the high resilience and internal potential of Chinese-Russian cooperation.” According to him, in the five months of 2022, the trade turnover reached $65.8 billion. He, like Mr. Putin, predicted new records in the trade turnover between the two countries.
