The shelling of the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which occurs systematically, creates the risk of a large-scale catastrophe. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.
“Various aspects of the situation around Ukraine were discussed. Vladimir Putin, in particular, stressed that the systematic shelling by the Ukrainian military of the territory of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant creates the risk of a large-scale catastrophe that could lead to radiation contamination of vast territories,” — says in message Kremlin press service following the conversation.
In addition, during the talks, Putin and Macron stressed the importance of sending an IAEA mission to the Zaporozhye NPP as soon as possible, which would be able to assess the real situation on the spot. At the same time, the Russian leader confirmed Moscow’s readiness to provide the necessary assistance to the inspectors.
