Pushkov called two signs of a miscalculation of the US sanctions policy

Alexey Pushkov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, in his Telegram channel named two key aspects of the statement of the representative of the US Treasury, Wally Adeyemo, at the hearings in Congress.

In particular, Adeimo warned that anti-Russian sanctions could be excessive. In the United States alone, a thousand restrictions have been introduced against Russian companies and individuals, he said.

Two things stand out in this statement, Pushkov writes. Firstly, the US Treasury admitted that the US administration adopted sanctions against Russia on the basis of the “bulk” principle, but achieved little by doing so. “We are talking about the inefficiency of such a “line method” of imposing sanctions, which does not make it possible to assess their result – or lack of it,” the publication says.

The second point that Pushkov emphasizes concerns the thesis about the redundancy of sanctions. Washington has not found the right balance between hurting Moscow and hurting itself and its allies, the senator points out. According to him, the sanctions began to harm the American economy instead of forcing Russia to change its policy. “Sanctions that are unproductive and harmful to the initiating country are a major miscalculation by the side that imposes them,” Pushkov sums up.
