The tussle between Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu ahead of next year’s assembly elections has raised concerns for the Congress. Amarinder Singh has reached Delhi, where he is to be produced in front of the Congress High Command committee today.
The party’s top leadership has stepped up efforts to end the growing infighting in the ruling Congress in Punjab. The tussle between Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu ahead of next year’s assembly elections has raised concerns for the Congress. Amarinder Singh has reached Delhi, where he is to be produced in front of the Congress High Command committee today.
Captain Amarinder will meet the 3-member Central Committee headed by senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi. This meeting will be held at 11 am. CM Amarinder can also meet with Sonia Gandhi. However, this has not been confirmed yet. Apart from Kharge, Harish Rawat and former MP J.P. Agarwal will also be involved.
For the Congress, the infighting in the party in Punjab remains a matter of concern. Elections are to be held in the state next year and Punjab is one of the few states which are in the hands of the Congress. Rahul Gandhi also met Amritsar MP Gurjit Singh Aujla and Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra in this regard. Rahul can also meet with other leaders of the state.
Long standing dispute between Captain and Sidhu
Navjot Sidhu and Captain Amarinder Singh have been in dispute for a long time. For some time now, Sidhu has been speaking openly against Captain, making an issue of not taking action against former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in the Guru Granth Sahib sacrilege case. Hoardings in support of Navjot Sidhu were recently put up in Amarinder’s home district Patiala, pointing fingers at Amarinder and demanding action against those guilty of sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib.
Rumors of joining AAP dismissed
Congress gave the formula to make Navjot Singh Sidhu as Deputy CM in the state, which he has rejected. Meanwhile, the party has also offered him a post at the national level in the organization, but that too has been rejected by Sidhu. Meanwhile, news about Sidhu joining the Aam Aadmi Party also surfaced. Sidhu said that Captain Amarinder has any proof that I am going to AAP. He is talking nonsense.
After Captain, Sidhu, Bajwa’s faction is also ready
After Sidhu, another faction is being formed in Punjab in the form of Pratap Singh Bajwa. Although the Congress Rajya Sabha MP has denied this, but has given a message to the Congress High Command in gestures. Along with this, Sidhu has also been advised. He said that Sidhu should get an important position, but it takes time to reach the top position. They should be given a role but the party loyalists who have been here for 40 to 45 years should also be taken care of.
