Polish PM calls for confiscation of Russia’s frozen assets

Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki called on EU and NATO countries to confiscate all frozen assets of Russia and all those who support it in order to finance the reconstruction of Ukraine. He stated this on June 14 at a press conference in The Hague following a closed meeting of the leaders of several NATO countries.

“We must not only freeze, but also confiscate the funds of the Russian Federation and those who support it. I consider Russia a barbaric country that is carrying out genocide. Therefore, freezing assets is not enough, we must confiscate them in order to fill the funds that we will need to restore Ukraine and restore order there, ”Morawiecki said.

The meeting in The Hague was attended by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, as well as the heads of government of Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Romania, Portugal and Latvia. It was held on the eve of the meeting of the US-led Contact Group on military assistance to Ukraine in Brussels on Wednesday and the meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of NATO defense ministers on June 15-16.
