Coronavirus COVID-19

A new type of childhood hepatitis may develop as a result of transmission of the COVID-19 virus. This assumption was made by Professor of the Department of Pediatrics, Head of the Department of Children’s Infectious Diseases MONIKI Elena Meskina.

“It is believed that in some COVID-19 could affect the immune system so that their body does not quite respond correctly to a normal virus. For example, children develop the so-called multisystem inflammatory syndrome. It also indicates an incorrect reaction of the immune system to the virus,” Meskina told the publication.reedus“.

The pediatrician also noted the high activity of hepatitis. “But in general [болезнь] proceeds quite favorably, and on basic therapy – compliance with the drinking regime and a strict diet – recovery occurs, ”explained Meskina.

Earlier, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced more than 150 cases of acute hepatitis of unknown origin in children. According to Rospotrebnadzor, not a single case of a new infection has been detected in Russia. According to health officials, the risk of importing the infection is low, since air traffic with most countries where cases have been detected is currently limited.
