Today, June 14, the parliamentary faction of the ruling party “Civil Contract” (GD) failed to vote on the inclusion in the agenda of the National Assembly of Armenia of the draft “Statements on Armenian-Azerbaijani and Armenian-Turkish relations”, previously presented by two opposition parliamentary groups in the legislative body.
The opposition itself, represented by the “Armenia” and “I have the Honor” factions in its entirety, boycotted the parliament session, therefore, due to the absence of the main speaker in the hall, the draft was submitted to the vote without discussion. Head of the State Duma faction Hayk Konjoyan announced that they would not vote.
It should be reminded that on June 3, the factions “Armenia” and “I have the honor” initiated an extraordinary meeting of the National Assembly, at which the statement initiated by them on Armenian-Azerbaijani and Armenian-Turkish relations was to be discussed. 33 deputies were present and the quorum was not secured due to the lack of deputies from the faction of the State Duma, which has the majority of seats in the 107-seat parliament (71 mandates), and therefore the meeting did not take place.
According to the opposition’s draft statement, Armenia will support the full realization of the right of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh to self-determination and international recognition. The document notes that any final version of the settlement of the Karabakh conflict is unacceptable for Armenia, as a result of which Nagorno-Karabakh may become part of Azerbaijan.
Since April 25, the parliamentary opposition represented by the two political blocs “Armenia” and “I have the honor”, which are headed respectively by the ex-presidents of the republic Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyanholds protests with the main demand – the resignation of the prime minister Nikol Pashinyan.
